1969 - My first trip back since 1948

..

Where is everyone?

In 1969, while on a camping trip through Northern Ontario, I thought it would be fun to drive into the colony on the new road - and show my family the Abitibi Canyon. So my wife Jackie, son Denny, and I headed up the road.

When the colony came into view, memories came flooding back. But something was missing. It was almost like the place had been abandoned. Where were all the people - and the children that used to be playing everywhere?

We stopped into the general store to get some supplies. It used to be a busy place - now it was very quiet.

I think the road was largely responsible for changing the social nature of the colony as I remembered it.

After driving around the colony, we headed for the landing and had our picnic.

Here are a few of the pictures of our visit.
